Shelby has been a practicing psychotherapist for 26 years. She works with individuals, couples, families and groups. Her areas of expertise include parenting, blended family issues, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress syndrome, eating, adjustment and bipolar disorders as well as bereavement counseling. Shelby also provides pet bereavement therapy for clients of several Long Island veterinarians. The modalities that she uses in treatment encompass psycho-dynamic , behavioral, cognitive and strategic therapies.
Shelby's extensive experience includes working at Pilgrim State and Saint Elizabeth's Hospitals with schizophrenic patients, providing therapy for expectant parents at the Family Planning Center in St. James and counseling cancer patients and their families for the North Shore Oncology Group, She spent two years at the Mental Health Clinic of Long Island in Nesconset where she worked with a broad spectrum of clientele and conducted anticipatory grief work with dying children and their families. For twenty six years she was affiliated with The Nassau Suffolk Mental Health Center in Woodbury, ten of which she served as the Director of Group Therapy. In that capacity she initiated, organized and taught group therapy to colleagues, while running marital, couple, senior and adolescent groups.
